Why
We Need the NSA?

How
It All Began
In 1952 a group known as the NSA, National Security Agency, was
created. They really wanted to keep America safe so they promised to
monitor the world around us, gather information, and fully understand
the information they received.
They
had to monitor all electronics. This include phones, computers and
even emails, but they had to be sneaky.
At
first, the NSA only had to monitor the worlds around. They wanted to
make sure the other countries weren't up to bad things.
Everyone
was happy....
...but
one day something very bad happened.
On
September 11th,
2001, a very bad group called the Al-Quaeda set up an attack against
the United States. This group stole two planes filled with innocent
men, women and children. Then crashed this plane into the tallest
buildings in New York City, the “twin towers”, killing over 2000
people.
Everyone
was scared. They didn't feel safe.
The
NSA &the President had a Plan President
George W. Bush and his congress signed an act called the USA PARTRIOT
act soon after these attacks. This act was known as the Uniting and
Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to
Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2011.
The
Patriot act was set up so people could feel safe again. They wanted
to eliminate outside threats so they decided to monitor more than
what was going on outside of America.
They
started to look at what was going on inside of the US. The NSA
started monitoring phone calls, emails, purchases and much more.
It
was a success and thanks to the Patriot Act the NSA has been able to
catch many bad guys and groups ever since.
