Google Glass... It's Alive!

Yesterday the Wall Street Journal wrote an article about the infamous Google Glass.  As you can probably guess it's still alive! Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt announced the technology will continue to be developed and have changes made to it.  I'm sure most of you either don't care or are possibly appalled by the idea.  The chairman said it is a long term project like the self driving car and remarked "That's like saying the self-driving car is a disappointment because it's not driving me around now."  I'm not sure that's the case, but maybe he's right.  Google is trying to address the cost of the device as well as how it looks to make them more like a normal pair of glasses.  They believe that by addressing these issues in particular that Google Glass will be accepted by mainstream society.

Most, if not all are you, probably sighed at the chance to see Google Glass be the next cool gadget.  I think there is a possible market for Google Glass if they make it more appropriately priced and more normal looking.  Although there are many people who would disagree and say that there is no demand or market for this type of thing because everyone is always plugged into their phones, tables, laptops, smart-watches, etc. So why would anyone want to wear these ridiculously overpriced disgusting glasses?  Maybe it will become a trend to show your wealth like the gold Apple watch.  Maybe it will become a display of how much money you have to spend on something you will never use.  Or maybe it will be the next way for people to distract themselves in class without having to look down at their smartphones.

Whatever the case may be, rest assured there will be people rolling their eyes and shaking their heads at this decision.  Before you dismiss Google Glass though, maybe it will one day be something widely used.  It could be the next trendy device like the iPhone (I know some of you probably cringed at that too) if people see that it will make their lives easier than always needing to use their smartphones, tablets or laptops.  If Google can make or show that Google Glass is comparable or better than a tablet, smart-watch, etc. then maybe we could start seeing people wearing them as an everyday device.
