the latest and best?

There seems to be a culture happening around the world where the newest technology seems to be followed by the words "the best" or something along those lines. But is the newest technology always the best thing for everyone to invest in?  Half the time the newest technology that people are investing in and put serious thought into is their phones. The iPhone trend and the droid master race and picking which one seems to be a big decision for some people. But is jumping on the latest thing the best thing to do? For example the iPhone had a huge catastrophe that was their maps and GPS direction application.  I know from personal experience that it once took a friend and I to an abandoned train station verse an actual train station. It is good to keep up to date and to be interested in the latest technology but some times it doesn't beat the tried and true technology that we know works and works well. Not to mention that if you pick certain technologies to invest your money into sometimes it doesn't have nearly as long a life as the user would hope. Technologies gear themselves to be able to stay user friendly and allow other people and users to add and change parts of the technology.  But what good is it to invest time and money into technology that is just going to eventually dissipate out? All in all it just means that the technology improvements sometimes aren't improvements but just road bumps in the long term plan towards great things.  The real question is what should the user invest in and take a risk on?  A question which can only be answered by each user and their choices, may they hopefully not regret them.
