Land Rover’s Phone Driven Car

Land Rover has recently come up with a Range Rover that you can drive using a smart phone. Why? Because it’s supposed to help you get out of tough spots or jams. For example, in this video, the man uses the technology to reverse his car out of a tight parking spot so he does not have to hit the car that is parked next to him. This video also demonstrates how the technology could be used to get over a rough spot. It gives you the ability to see exactly where the car will go and make sure you do not hit someone else’s car because you do not have to be in the car to control it.
In the demonstration in the video, the man turns the car on and moves it only using the app. Now, you may think that it is an advantage in technology, which it may be, but there are some things that can go wrong with this. For example, what if the person with the app to control their car lets their child play with their phone? The child may think it is simply a game and open the app. The child could easily turn the car on and start moving it without realizing it. If this were to happen, the child could unknowingly cause serious damage not only to the car, but to other people’s cars, properties, or even just other people.
The good part, besides the fact that it would be very useful technology when your car can get stuck somewhere, is that the maximum the car can move using the app is only 4 miles per hour. So even in the example above, damage can be made, but nothing too serious can happen. Using the app, the car can move 180 degrees in the opposite direction of its’ original position. While using the system, the gear selection, steering, brakes, and acceleration can be controlled.
This car can be very useful if programmed correctly. It would need some sort of protection against accidently setting it off and moving it. If the technology can be properly put together to avoid any sort of accidental setting off, it would be a big advancement in car technology.
There can easily be two sides of debate on this topic because being able to move a car using a phone is something that can be either good or bad. This can be easily argued by both sides. I see the good and the possible bad of this technology, but overall, I feel that this could be something useful. It would be very useful to use when getting in and out of a tight parking spot without hitting someone else’s car or motorcycle. Although there may be some bad sides to this, I believe that if it is worked on correctly, it will be safe to use, but only for those situations. I do not think it would be a good idea if it were a technology to drive a car everywhere using your phone.
I have attached the link to the video in case anyone is interested in seeing it.
